Dinghy Courses

Overview

At Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, there’s a range of exciting opportunities for individuals of all ages to embark on a thrilling journey into the world of dinghy sailing. For children, the Australian Sailing “Tackers” course offers a dedicated learn-to-sail program, designed to introduce them to the joys of sailing in a fun and engaging way. For a one-day sailing adventure, the “Sail and Play” program provides children with an immersive experience on the water. Additionally, teenagers and adults can dive into sailing through the Australian Sailing “Start Sailing 1 and 2” courses, which cater to beginners and offer a comprehensive foundation in dinghy sailing techniques.

Start Sailing 1 & 2 (12yrs - Adult)

Start Sailing 1 and 2 courses use RS Quests, a double-handed+ dinghy class, offering a comprehensive introduction to sailing fundamentals, including boat handling, safety, theory, weather, and safety regulations.

Each day runs from 9 am – 3 pm with a break for lunch. You have options to bring your own lunch or we have a cafe on site. Bringing sun safe clothes your happy to swim in, a hat, water bottle and enclosed shoes are a must! We provide life jackets, but being water confident for this course is essential. Successful participants will gain your Australian Sailing Start Sailing 1 and 2 completion certificate.

COST: (4-Days) $415

Tackers (7-12yrs)

Tackers offers a progressive sailing program with three stages: Tackers 1, 2, and 3. Tackers 1 introduces basics, Tackers 2 builds technique, and Tackers 3 focuses on competitive sailing.

Each day runs from 9 am – 3 pm with a break for lunch. You have options to bring your own lunch or can pre-order a set lunch from the cafe via the Sailing Academy. Bringing sun safe clothes your happy to swim in, a hat, water bottle and enclosed shoes are a must! We provide life jackets, but being water confident for this course is essential. Successful participants will gain your Australian Sailing Tackers completion certificate

COST: (4-Days) $365 Member | $400 non-Member

Sail & Play (6-12yrs)

Sail & Play, a school holiday program, offers an exciting day of water sports for curious kids. Activities include sailing, paddle boarding, RIB rides and more, ensuring a fun-filled adventure.

The day runs from 9 am – 3 pm with a break for lunch. You have options to bring your own lunch or can pre-order a set lunch from the cafe via the Sailing Academy. Bringing sun safe clothes, a hat, water bottle and enclosed shoes are a must! Sail and Play is a one day taster for children to see if they are ready to start their sailing journey.
