Keelboat Courses

Overview

At Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, aspiring sailors have the opportunity to embark on an exhilarating journey into keelboat sailing through two essential Australian Sailing courses: the “Start Crewing and Helming Course” and the “Start Skippering Course.” The former is perfect for beginners, offering a solid foundation in the fundamentals of keelboat sailing, covering boat handling, safety, and sailing theory. As participants progress, the “Start Skippering Course” provides an intermediate level of expertise, allowing sailors to take on a leadership role. At RQYS, we use either the Elliott 6’s or a FarEast28R for our keelboat courses. These courses are more than just educational experiences; they serve as gateways to exciting possibilities. Graduates can explore competitive racing in WAGS (Wednesday Racing at RQYS) or embark on unforgettable cruising adventures aboard keelboats. Whether you’re a novice or looking to elevate your skills, RQYS provides the perfect platform to set sail into the world of keelboat sailing.
