With wonderful sailing waters, an expert and vastly experienced race management team , superb sailing and hospitality facilities, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron can take care of all your regatta needs.
RQYS hosts many major regattas including World Championships, Australian Championships and State Championships. We rarely have a weekend free!
Up to four off-the-beach courses can be raced on Waterloo and Moreton Bay simultaneously. We have access to more than 80 trained volunteers, including State, National and International Race Officers, as well as State, National and International Judges and Umpires.
Due to its location on the water’s edge of Waterloo Bay, the Squadron is able to offer a range of courses for all types of yachting – including inshore protected dinghy courses on Waterloo Bay where tidal influence is minimal and prevailing winds are from the south-east with occasional north-east sea breezes. Wind strength varies between 5-20 knots.
For open water sailing, east of Green Island there is a vast bay with plenty of room to run more than one course at a time. Tidal flow in these areas is mainly north-south and runs between 0.5 and 1.5 knots depending on seasonal conditions.
With the professional assistance from the RQYS Sailing Manager, preparing for a major event is no longer a burden. Come to us with your needs and we will take care of the rest. It’s a pain-free experience and the result will be stunning!
