Dear Members,

It is with great sadness that we advise Members of the passing of Past Commodore Denis Raymond Land on Wednesday 8th October 2025.

Denis was 91 yrs of age and we extend our deepest sympathies to wife Anita, son and our Rear Commodore Chris and the family at this very sad time and look back with great fondness of the role Denis played in his 72 years of membership at the Squadron.

Denis was awarded Life Membership in 1991 for his exceptional contributions to the Squadron’s growth and development, involvement with Committees and began his Flag Officer terms in 1996 and served as Commodore from 2000-2002.

Denis started his love of boating sailing Diamond and Dutchmen classes.  Denis also enjoyed participating in the various competitions over the years having won the Myora Cup 15 times, Goodwill Cup 7 times, twice awarded Power Boat of the Year, 11 times as Squadron Champion (LPC/GPS), 6 times as winner of Past Commodores’ Cup (GPS) and won Power Cruiser of the Year on “North Light” in 2012 and 2020.

The family would like to invite members who wish to pay their respects and remember Denis to a Celebration of Life service being held in the Girdis Room at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on Thursday 16th October, commencing at 1pm-4pm.
