John has been a member of RQYS since 1969 and was active in the Club in earlier times sailing dinghies in the regular Saturday races. Work and life got in the way and after moving to Sydney, John had the opportunity to do many Hobarts, albeit as a country/absentee member of RQYS. His involvement in these was as a volunteer on the radio relay vessels.

John started his career as a radio presenter & journalist in Mount Isa QLD. He also worked at 2CH, 2UE, 3AW, 4BC and 6PM radio stations. He founded The Capital Group in March 1989 building a successful marketing/branding/corporate communications company and was instrumental in putting together the Sydney 2000 Olympics. After which, the company focused on both domestic and international property developers’ marketing campaigns.

When visiting Brisbane he always patronized the Club and was always interested in the developments and expansions of the Club and Canaipa over many years.
