Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) sailors travelled north to Yeppoon over the weekend to compete in the 2025 ILCA Queensland State Championships, hosted by Keppel Bay Sailing Club.

The regatta brought together the state’s best ILCA sailors across Junior, Youth, and Masters divisions—and RQYS Team dominated the results across all divisions.

A strong contingent of RQYS members revelled in the Strong winds and huge waves and showcased their skills and determination across all ILCA Divisions . The success was a testament to the depth of talent and dedication within the Squadron’s Training and racing program.

RQYS Head Coach Adrian Finglas said the results reflect the club’s commitment to developing top-level athletes from grassroots Youth and Masters sailors.

“It’s fantastic to see our juniors, youth, and master’s all standing out on the state stage,” Adrian Said . “These results show that RQYS continues to be the premier sailing club in Queensland.”

The club extends its congratulations to all competitors, and thanks Keppel Bay Sailing Club for hosting a well-run and competitive event.

The 2025 ILCA state championships were held at KBSC, Yeppoon which provided challenging conditions with a 4m swell and wind gusts upwards of 25 knots. The ILCA 4 fleet was extremely competitive with 32 boats out on water, close racing with Wilbur Bright and James Dale trading wins each day leading them to battle it out for the title on the final day in the heaviest winds of the regatta gusting up to 30 knots. RQYS was well represented with 15 sailors in the fleet which converted into great podium results for the club. A big thank you to QLD ILCA Association for organising the event and KBSC for hosting and providing a great venue and for the volunteers for their support on and off the water.
