We just wrapped up the Nacra 17 World Championships in Cagliari, Sardinia with Jake Liddell. After only eight months as a team, it was great to line up against the world’s best and see our progress.
The event featured a highly competitive 40 boat fleet, with the top 20 advancing to Gold Fleet after the qualifying series.
Australia was well represented, including fellow RQYS sailors Kenzie and Gian.
Cagliari delivered the full spectrum of conditions: everything from light, non-foiling races to 20+ knots with big waves. It was an excellent test to be able to race and perform across that entire range.
We finished the regatta 13th overall, a solid result in such a competitive international fleet.
The racing was close and intense, structured around a two-day qualifying series, three days of Gold Fleet, followed by a non-discardable final race and a top-four boat medal race, which was being trialled under a new format for the class.
Now it’s back home for the Aussie summer season. We’re ready to build on everything we learned in Cagliari and keep pushing forward for the next years European season and towards LA28.
