The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron marked a historic milestone in grand style as members gathered in the Flags Room for the Senior Presentation Night celebrating the 140th Sailing Season. With elegance, camaraderie, and deep respect for tradition, the evening honoured the exceptional talent and dedication of the Squadron’s finest sailors. Among the many accolades distributed, the Major Sailing Awards stood as a highlight of the night, celebrating outstanding individuals across Olympic classes, keelboats, offshore racing, and team performance.

🏆 Squadron Champion of an Olympic Class

Trophy: Astra Trophy
Recipient: Phil Danks (ILCA 7)
The Astra Trophy, a cherished perpetual trophy displayed in the Miller Gallery, was awarded to Phil Danks for his commanding performance in the ILCA 7 class.

🏆 Longest Serving Season Points Winner

Trophy: The Governors Trophy
Recipient: David Healey (Etchells)
A testament to longevity and consistency, David Healey added another prestigious title to his name.

🏆 Most Consistent Senior Skipper

Trophy: Callisto Cup
Recipient: David Healey (Etchells)
A remarkable dual achievement, Healey also claimed the Callisto Cup, proving his mettle over the season.

🏆 Most Consistent Contributor

Trophy: Maurice Tilley Memorial Trophy
Recipient: Past Commodore Greg Clarke
A tireless contributor to Squadron life, Greg Clarke’s dedication was recognised with this important award.

🏆 Spirit of Sailing

Trophy: Spirit of Sailing Trophy
Recipient: Hayden Barney
For embodying the true values of the sport—resilience, passion, and fellowship—Hayden Barney received heartfelt applause.

🏆 Best Performing Female Crew

Trophy: Erica Blumson Trophy
Recipient: Ayla Barney
A standout sailor across multiple formats, Ayla’s VX One National Championship and Match Racing titles earned her this honour.

🏆 Leading Forward Hand

Trophy: Past Commodore Greg Clarke Trophy
Recipient: Will Bridge
This award recognises precision and teamwork at the front of the boat

🏆 Offshore Yacht of the Year

Trophy: James Clark Memorial Trophy
Recipient: FIKA – Annette Hesselmans
Acknowledging exceptional offshore performance, FIKA took top honours competing in the two handed division Sydney to Hobart and then the Melbourne to Osaka race.

🏆 Best Performance in an Olympic Class

Trophy: J H Robinson Memorial Trophy
Recipient: Mara Stransky
A consistent Olympian and fierce competitor, Stransky’s efforts once again shone bright.

🏆 Keelboat Crew of the Year

Trophy: E Sparkes Trophy
Recipient: GAUNTLET – Peter Milliken & Crew
Their cohesive performance throughout the season brought pride to their class and the Squadron.

🏆 Sailor of the Year

Trophy: Hardy Brothers Jewellers Trophy
Recipient: Duncan Hine (for the second consecutive year)
As the evening reached its pinnacle, Duncan Hine was awarded Sailor of the Year for a second straight season. The handcrafted trophy, a masterpiece by Stuart Bishop, stood as a symbol of enduring excellence and the deep-rooted legacy of the Bishop family within the Squadron.
