RQYS Youth Team members Caterina Meyer and Rory Meehan gained selection in the Australian Youth Worlds Team yesterday to represent Australia at the youth worlds in Portugal in December.
The Youth Worlds is the pinnacle of youth sailing world-wide with many calling it the junior Olympics.
The selection regatta is very testing with only 1 person selected for your country from each youth class.
RQYS has had a huge history of Youth Worlds representation with our very own Commodore Curtis Skinner representing Australia in the 2009 Youth Worlds in Brazil with Adrian Finglas as his coach.
In the Early 2000s RQYS dominated the nation with over 20 RQYS youth Sailors representing Australia at this prestigious event over a 7-year period, interesting point this was when our very own RQYS Head Coach Adrian Finglas was the QAS Head Coach and was developing talent towards the 2012 London Olympics.
All the RQYS Team sailed so well flying our flag at the Front of all Fleets.
An Olympic build up takes approx 8 years and once again The Squadron is on track for 2032 representation.
Big thank you to all our parent’s coaches and supporters who have been a part of this success, it takes a village to create champions.
