WAGS REPORT
DATE: 13/8/2025
WIND: SE-E-NE-5-10 KNOTS
TIDE: H@13:19
COURSE: 22BRAVO
NUMBER OF BOATS: 42
A fantastic fleet, boats filled with friends and family, turned up to enjoy the 2025 “EKKA” Wags. The day also incorporated the Peter Beard Memorial Trophy. Peter was a great person who, without the recognition he deserved, contributed enormously to the sailing community. It’s been over 10 years since we lost him. Quality people like Pete are hard to find!!
The day’s forecast was for very light breezes, something we should be getting use to this time of year. However as the fleet and the start boat ventured out of the harbour, it was a pleasant surprise to find a steady 8-10 knotter (albeit all over the place) and all looked great for another great Wednesday arvo sail. I call 22Bravo the horseshoe course because, on paper, it looks like circles everywhere. It’s a great course in light breezes as it gives the RO plenty of marks of the course to use as finish lines. A get out of jail free option!! I need plenty of those!
A clockwise loop around Green Island, with the first mark being the Western Cardinal, and out to the GERM rec. mark, where a port rounding sent everyone back the way they came and then down to Lockyer Light where the committee boat was sitting and watching the events. We were all absolutely blown away that there was still 10 knots of breeze—AWESOME!! — A FULL COURSE!! From Lockyer it back to GERM where another port rounding brought the fleet back past Lockyer and to the finish line, believe it or not, set at the same position as the start line. Well done to all!!!!
