“Let’s ‘go sailing” we said, “On our bay” we said, “In a near perfect forecast” we said. To quote a line from a poet by Robert Burns in 1785, “The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men”. Now me -“all, went out the window when” the **%%##* breeze disappeared. I knew we were in trouble when we set the start line near Lockyer Light, only to be greeted by a diminishing westerly. Nothing like the 12-15 knots promised. As the fleet set off towards Hope Banks a course change was made via CH 72 and the Wags Whatsapp in an attempt to keep everyone in the breeze and the best way home. However it wouldn’t have made any difference because the entire bay went to glass. As nice as it was, just bobbing around and enjoying refreshment or ten, the main ingredient for a yacht race is wind. We missed out on that!!! And everyone was so looking forward to a windward finish in the predicted sou’wester. See the lack of results below. Oh well every Wednesday can’t be perfect. Nelly and I will see you in July!
