The weather gods didn’t exactly co-operate.

The weather gods didn’t exactly co-operate for us on Saturday when 7 boats cruised towards RQYS Canaipa from Manly, 1 from Hope Island & others from other points around the bay for the 1st stop on our cruise. The planned gathering & sundowners with accompanying bonfire didn’t eventuate as the heavens opened up as we were preparing to board tenders for the shore. A quick roundup of cruisers we all assembled on board August Moon which was to be the first of joyous gatherings over the weekend.

Sunday Morning the sun started to shine through & apart from a small shower we were blessed with fine weather as we arrived at SYC’s South Stradbroke Island site at Dux. All cruisers came ashore for a great bbq, a few beverages and the inaugural POWER CRUISERS TOILET ROLL RACE. Brought to you by the Ministry of Silly Walks.

No winners were declared as we were all laughing too much to work it out.

A few energetic cruisers walked over to the surf side of Straddie for a beach walk & wade in the surf.

Late in the afternoon we motored by tender to Tipplers Tavern Café for dinner. The owners & staff put on a great dinner for us staying open especially for us.

Monday the weather really shined through with a beautiful sunrise. After some of us walked over to the surf beach again, coffees were the order of the day and not long after we all started to depart for our home ports or Southport for 1 lucky captain & crew.

For those who braved the depressing forecast & were rewarded with a cracking weekend, thank you all for your participation. A big thank you also to Gavin Smith & Wendy McDonald who crewed with me & assisted with hosting & all things boating.
