A small but mighty fleet took on a new course!

Now, I can understand that there were some thunderstorms that always deliver the unknown on Tuesday, and I can understand that there was another forecast of possibly the same for our Wednesday arvo. But those who decided not to sail missed out on a fantastic afternoon with a totally new course which covered approx. 12/13 NM without going east of the Green Island Rec. Mark (GERM), just in case those thunderstorms eventuated.

So the small, but high quality, fleet took on the challenge of course 22A. From the start boat, anchored just south and outside the harbour entrance, it was a reach in 15 knots to the Green Island western cardinal before venturing east and out to the Green Island northern red where the course turned into a beat to the GERM. A port rounding at GERM and it was back on a run to where everybody had just come all the way back to the western cardinal. The next leg was a beat to Lockyer Light where there we some differing tactics. Some chose to get some shelter close into Green Island and avoid some tide, and some chose to go a little deeper in Waterloo Bay before turning to port and laying Lockyer. Another port rounding at Lockyer and it was back to GERM on a broad reach followed by another port rounding at the mark and back to Lockyer and home on a run to the finish boat still anchored at the start line. Every comment in the bar was “fantastic course”. It might be a challenge with a 40 boat fleet but that’s why we have racing rules!! In the end the fleet was in the bar before the storms and working on being wet on the inside. Great Day!!
