Wednesday Afternoon GO Sailing

April 10, 2025

DATE:  9/4/2025

WIND: SE-SSE-14-22 KNOTS

TIDE: L@14:04- 0.61M

COURSE: 23A

NUMBER OF BOATS: 47

What a brilliant arvo. The breeze provided great consistency. Although the 25 knots at the finish line was not expected and provided some added excitement. The best thing was no rain!! We are still having to use the Hope Banks Rec. mark as a windward mark of the course in a sou’easter because the Peel Island Rec. mark got blown away during the cyclone and is yet to be relocated after being found at Mudjimba beach. I don’t think we want to sail that far on a Wednesday.

A running reach from the start boat to the Green Island western cardinal provided a quick getaway and continued all the way up the floating red east of St. Helena. A starboard rounding and the work leg began all the way to the Hope Banks Rec. mark. The crew on the committee boat watching on AIS as the fleet split and attacked the top mark from different directions. Another starboard rounding and it was a run back to the Green Island Red and back to the western cardinal. This is where it all got serious. Too serious for some, to the point of danger, where some very poor sailing skills and knowledge was displayed by one boat. The rest of the fleet enjoyed a very fast finish with under 9 minutes covering the entire fleet. Well done to everyone else!!!
