Well, how do you pick a broken nose? With a lot of difficulty!! That was just like picking today’s course and referring to the forecast from so many sites, nobody got it right, including me. Everyone talked about a nor’wester with it possibly going to the north around 10 knots. HMMM. I should have known when trying to set the start line and a zephyr of breeze arriving from the northeast, that there was no way it would go back to the northwest. So the brains trust considered all of the options and decided to stick with the day’s original plan.

So setting the start line just west of Lockyer Light made sure the fleet got away in a nice nor’easter which seemed to harden up all the way to Hope Banks. A port rounding and it was down to the Peel Island Rec. Mark in a 15-18 knotter. The leg was a rather quick running reach and enjoyed by all—very nice. At the mark it was another port rounding and back on the breeze all the way past Huybers Light, staying on the same heading, and on to the finish boat which was anchored as far north west as possible to stretch the course as far as possible. A great fast finish in a freshening northerly. Very cool!!
