We are calling it “Halloween Day”. Not only did the smallest, but in my opinion, one of the prettiest boats in the fleet, have a great day on the water, he also took out the Muir Marine closest to the line and the lucky door prize. Why did anyone else bother turning up?? I’ll tell you why, it was a cracker of a sail. Westerly’s provide a completely different course with consideration needed to get back to the finish and some unexpected lifts and knocks. There was a big issue at the end of the day with a very low tide, however with some juggling of start times, which exercised the mathematical mind of the RO and crew, all boat made it into the harbour before it all went bad.

A slightly stronger breeze gave the early starters a slight advantage with a quick running reach to the Green Island Western Cardinal and it turned into a run all the way out to the Hope Banks Rec. Mark where the breeze was a little softer . A starboard rounding at the mark saw the next leg back to the Green Island Rec. Mark turn into a beat before another starboard rounding and a gentler reach up to the Green Island Northern Red. The tide was still ebbing and made the small beat between St. Helena and Green Island and back to the Western Cardinal challenging. The finish line was set just north of the harbour entrance and a beam reach saw some good boat speed and close finishers. Great Day!!!
