TIDE: H@14:53-1.85M

COURSE: 18 Alpha

NUMBER OF BOATS: 36

Now let’s have a bit of a think about it!! On one hand you could enjoy an afternoon with your learned work colleagues, or do some much needed work around the house, or catch-up on that always niggling boat maintenance or just go for a nice sail with some awesome people and beautiful boats. I chose the latter, as I have for 16 years now. I had fun, not sure about those who chose anything different. It was always going to be interesting afternoon. A swinging southerly, albeit light, a challenging tide and some serious thought to be given to the windward leg. WORK/RESPONSIBILITY??? Who needs it???

The start boat was placed fairly close to the first mark being the Green Island western cardinal. Given that the end of the flood tide was due and the breeze under 4 knots, it seemed the best way to get the fleet out of the inner bay. It was basically like that all the way to the St. Helena red before a starboard turn and the before mentioned ‘serious thought’ was required. The wind models earlier in the day suggested that there would be more breeze out to the east and there was. Those who went that way were rewarded, as the results showed. It was a much quicker course to Germ where after another starboard pass brought everyone onto a nice running reach in 10/12 knots of breeze to Lockyer Light and was followed by the same all the way to the finish boat anchored just south of the harbour entrance. Great Day!!!!!!!!Great Sail!!!!!!!
