Wind: NE-9-15 Knots
Tide: L@17.32
Course: 5B
Number of Boats: 41
For the second time in as many weeks the course used just perfect for the conditions. The second leg, a beat to Hope Banks RM, was near a carbon copy of last week in regards to wind direction and strength. However the tide was totally the opposite and big, making the favoured side of the course something all skippers and crew needed to take into careful consideration.
The start line was set just north and inside Lockyer Light giving a running reach start. The favoured end of the line (the pin) gave an excellent heading to the first mark (Hybers Light). From there the run down to Empire point was very easy and I’m sure enjoyed by all. A port rounding at the mark saw the start of the above mentioned beat to Hope, where all the work begun. Another port rounding at Hope, where the traffic was horrendous. Nearly like picking your partners for a square dance. From there it was back to a run to Lockyer Light where more work needed to be done on the bow as the finish line was set 20 degrees north of the mark requiring a pole reset. The first 4 boats home of the very large Mono fleet (38) were 26 seconds apart with the rest of the fleet also very close. Awesome!!
