For the third week in a row we faced westerly’s’. Now nobody is complaining, however they also bring the colder temperatures. There was no exception on Wednesday to the point that some skippers and crew were questioning the sense in venturing onto our bay. But this IS Wags and it IS sailing and it WAS———great! Any beat home toward the harbour is a rarity and I suppose we must ‘embrace’ the conditions, but we can do without those cold winds.

Hope Banks is probably the most eastern mark we have in our course book and was always going to be the point where the beat home began. How we got there is a different story. We could have gone a number of ways, however settled on the conventional route of between Green and St. Helena Islands. A quick reach from the start boat, a nice run to Hope and then some thought being required at the mark. The beat back to Germ Rec. Mark, was very much influenced by the ebbing tide, so the boats that went south from Hope seemed to have an advantage with placings reflecting that decision. After Germ it was back between Green and St. Helena south at the Western Cardinal saw another quick reach to the finish boat waiting patiently (and cold) just outside the harbour entrance. Well done to all!!!!
