13nm Course with WAGS Founding Father, John Taylor

With a promising forecast of 10 -15 knots, more than twice of what we have been experiencing over the past number of weeks, it was an opportunity to shake out some wrinkles and enjoy some longer and faster legs. Course FR is approx. 13nm and one of the longer coursers available. The start gave a lovely running reach to the Green Island western cardinal before heading between Green and St. Helena and out to Hope Banks Rec. Mark on a long beat. It’s been a while since we’ve been out there. Nothing has changed, you still need to give the tide a lot of consideration. A port rounding at Hope was followed by a long run up to the floating red at St. Helena where the breeze faded slightly. Another port rounding and it was back between Green and St. Helena on a run before hardening up on the breeze at the western cardinal all the way back to the finish line just north of the harbour entrance. A very nice sail!!

We were also honoured to have John Taylor (one of the founding fathers of Wags) within the fleet and he brought along an original Wags burgee along to show all at presentation. It was great to hear from John as he also recalled some of the history of the great institution we know as WAGS.

John Taylor (oriiginal founder of WAGS) with Karen Baldwin, Ian Thomason and Paul Bolton
