COURSE: MR

NUMBER OF BOATS: 43

It’s not often that we get to share the bay with a world champion fleet, but on this day, so it was.

120 plus OK dinghy sailors occupied the northern part of Waterloo Bay so, working in with the Race Officer (our Lou)  in that regatta, we chose head out east past Huybers Light and venture south towards Peel Island on a course not used often but it was enjoyed by all.  It is approx. 12nm. The start boat was positioned just north of the entrance to Aquatic Paradise and the first leg to Huybers was cracked sheets before turning starboard and on to the windward mark (Peel Island RM) which was perfectly on the nose. It turned into quite a challenge with many small shifts keeping all skippers and crew on their toes. A port rounding at the mark saw the breeze from the stern, only varying a few degrees, giving a not so favourable dead run all the way back to Huybers. By now the fleet had condensed and it made for some very close sailing and a great running reach back to the finish boat still parked just north of Aquatic Paradise. 10 seconds separating 1st and 2nd in both the Mono and Multi fleets. Great job by all !!
