A Serene Standstill in Moreton Bay!

A very still but beautiful Moreton Bay greeted all boats and as the start line was being set, what was left of any breeze at all, dropped away to near 0 knots and the tide became a very necessary means of movement toward the first mark, being Lockyer Light. By the time the last starter crossed the line, the entire fleet was still within the 800 meters of the first leg. So it was time to weigh anchor on the start boat and attempt to put some kind of fair and even course together.

Who’d be an RO? Moving wide and around the fleet, it was fantastic to see a breeze trying to fill from the SSW and another coming down the bay from the NE. But at what strength? The now finish boat went to and sat at the next mark, the Green Island Rec. Mark, and looked back in hope the progression of the fleet which was moving well at around 4 knots. YEAH HA! So another extension of the course was required to the next mark, the Green Island Red.

Another check and the fleet was still moving well, DOUBLE YEAH HA!! So given the time of day, the finish line was set at the Green Island Northern Cardinal. It turned out to be another very close finishing fleet, with 2 minutes covering the first 10 boats. Rum apparently being the secret! Well done !!!
