WAGS REPORT

DATE: 29/4/2026

WIND: SE-14-18 Knots

TIDE: L@14:23-0.47M

COURSE: 22A

NUMBER OF BOATS: 28

With the impending Brisbane Race Week a number of our regular boats took the time (pre-regatta), to do their final tune-ups and weight reduction exercises (for the boat of course), so it was only natural that the fleet numbers were down. The fact that the forecast was over 20 knots also may have had an influence. So to cover the bases, 22 Alpha kept the fleet around Green Island and some distance from the eastern part of the bay where the stronger breeze was due to blow. I’m going to call 22Bravo “The Magic Horseshoe” both in shape and amazement.

A running reach start to the Green Island western cardinal before turning east and out to the Green Island red where the breeze went onto the nose provided a beat to the Green Island eastern rec. mark (Germ). The mark was taken to port and it was back the way they came, between Green and St. Helena, turning to port at the western cardinal and it turned into another beat down the western side of Green to Lockyer Light, taken to port, and back to Germ, taken to starboard, back to Lockyer and home to the finish. Sound like a busy time, it was! Boat constantly passing one another in opposite directions which kept crew and skippers constantly thinking. Amazing!!Apparently, there was something amiss with sounders, as a few chose to get a little intimate with the bottom in several parts of the bay.
