Week two of 2024 in WAGS turned out to be another excellent afternoon. The possible thunderstorm didn’t eventuate and the cooling breeze was welcome to all who ventured out on the course. The breeze was slightly stronger than the 10 knotter forecast but, as the fleet gathered at the start line, it did exactly what was needed and went eastey and made for a fantastic first leg beat all the way out to the Hope Banks RM. It was a great view looking at the fleet going away from the start boat with boats tacking north and south trying to gain any sort of an advantage.

A port rounding at mark, being careful of the ever present tide issue, saw a run back to the northern red at Green Island and on to the western cardinal. The finish line was set deep down the bay so the last leg became an enjoyable broad reach. There were some spectacularly close finishers which kept the finish team very busy, albeit only for ten minutes. I’m going to continue to mention Collision Regulations under which we all sail: my motto and hopefully yours – IF IN DOUBT GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!

It is also all skippers’ and crews’ responsibility to KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE SAILING INSTRUCTIONS.
