WAGS REPORT

DATE: 22/4/2026

WIND: SSE-15-20 Knots

TIDE: H@13:15-1.68M

COURSE: 26Bravo

NUMBER OF BOATS: 38

There are a number of songs that refer to the wind. “Ride Like the Wind”- Christopher Cross, “My Friend the Wind”-Demis Roussos, don’t know where that one came from, “Blowin’ in the Wind”-Bob Seger, and a couple of favourites of mine, “They Call the Wind Maria” from the movie Paint Your Wagon and “Summer Wind” –Frank Sinatra.  All referring to the necessary ingredient required for us to have our few hours of fun on a Wednesday arvo. After the past few weeks of 10-knot variables, it was awesome to have 15-20 knots so all could stretch out some wrinkles in the mains and headsails.

In the past, 26 Bravo was one of our longer courses. It was always a concern whether the fleet could complete it before the timed cut off. My how things have changed! The entire fleet was home yesterday with over 30 minutes to spare. Proving my point, not only do we have a faster fleet, but the skill level of skippers and crew is up there with the best.

A running reach start is always fun, making it a challenge for a 00:00 at the start line. (See below). The tide was slack and it was flat water all the way between Green and St. Helena Islands to the floating red. A starboard turn and it was decision time to get to the Hope Banks Rec. Mark. Do I go east and maybe some Moreton Bay chop or head back towards Green Island and flatter seas? The fleet was evenly divided, however the top place getters went east. After Hope (where it was like any given roundabout in Brisbane) it was a very fast leg home. A couple of the Multis nearing 20 knots in boat speed, past Lockyer and onto another busy finish. Under 8 minutes covering the entire fleet. Love it!!!
