WIND: W-15-30 KNOTS

TIDE: L@15:15

COURSE: 24BR

NUMBER OF BOATS: 29

Try, Try, Try as you might, sometimes you just can’t make the afternoon right.

For the 5th Wednesday in a row we needed to contend again with more westerly’s. The only difference this week was that they were truly Brissy style. Gusts more than doubling as the afternoon unfolded. We all made it to the start line where the early 15-20 knots were acceptable. The fleet had prepared their respective boats with reefs and tucks, very impressive! However the wind gusts (Brissy style) were jumping to 25, then back to 20. Then 27 and back to 22 and the final straw that broke the camel’s backs was a 29 with no let up. Contact from the catamaran Chill Pill making its way to the start line from Raby Bay with a report of 35 east of Hybers Light sealed it. TIME TO GO HOME. AP OVER A was hoisted and radio contact made to the fleet. Let’s not get into the news for the wrong reasons. Although everyone seemed prepared, it was not the afternoon to find out.

I must commend the fleet on their preparedness and enthusiasm, however the only comments back in the safety of the bar was a good call. Well done to everyone!!!
