With just over a week until Brisbane’s official winter begins, you would have been forgiven to think it was months away. The bay was beautiful! The predicted southerly’s had no chance of arriving as the ambient temperature climbed and drew in a light but steady nor’easter. The skies were blue, as was the water and you could see clearly both ways. Afternoons like this don’t come very often.

Now I mentioned the nor’easter. It was there and very light. These conditions always make for close racing. The chat between boats is always very clear and funny. If only you knew what the committee boat can hear! So from the start line it was a gentle reach to the Green Island Western Cardinal in an easterly before the breeze went slightly north and turned the course into a beat.  As the fleet made its way between Green and St. Helena towards the St. Helena floating red , it became very clear that the course would need to be shortened and that mark would now be the finish line. The last leg was great to watch with boats tacking all over the place to reach the line. There were some excellent sailing skills displayed and the light conditions always bring the cream to the top.  A very well done to all!!
