WIND: ESE-10-15 KNOTS
TIDE: L@15: 20 —- 0.58M
COURSE: 22BR
NUMBER OF BOATS: 24
This time last week we were all battening down for cyclone Alfred and not knowing what to expect. What a difference seven days makes. With the blessing of MSQ, some very nice breeze, a small but eager fleet, just to get out onto the bay was a welcome relief. The very real issue of debris in the bay made a choice of keeping close to the harbour an influencing factor in course choice. Hmmmm, How to mix it up??? Just use 22BR. It challenged skippers and crew with something “educational” and all did very well. Although the bottom of the bay became friendly and little too touchy feely for some.
The first mark of the course was Lockyer light, taken to port and then it was up to the Green Island Rec. Mark (GIRM), of which became very familiar as the afternoon proceeded as it was seen twice. A starboard rounding at GIRM and it was back to Lockyer light on a lovely reach passing it to starboard. The end of an ebb tide helped the fleet to the Green Island western cardinal (NJW), the northern cardinal (CJP) and out to the northern red (GIR). The breeze turned onto the nose for the next mark as GIRM, for the second time, became a beat. Another starboard rounding at GIRM and it was back between Green and St. Helena, where everyone had just come and to a finish line set just north of the harbour entrance. The only complaints were from the helms persons and trimmers who claimed there was no time for refreshment as you never steered a straight line!!! Great fun!!!
Coming Up: Now only a 6 race series–Race 5/6 of the Geoff Anderson Super Series 2/4/2025.
