Very close company & very fast conditions!
After a couple of bleak and rainy days, the forecast didn’t indicate anything different for our Wednesday arvo sail. However once again the weather Gods smiled upon the Wags family and provided a very nice sou’easter and no moisture coming from the sky, but slightly wetter for those crew members sitting on the rails.
Another new course (25 alpha) was used and by all indications enjoyed by all, going by the talk in the bar. So the start line was set making the first mark of the course (Lockyer Light) a beat. After port rounding it was up to the Green Island Rec. Mark on a running reach where another port rounding saw all enjoy a calm run all the way to the floating red at St. Helena. This time a starboard rounding and the breeze was on the nose all the way to the Hope Banks Rec. Mark. Going by what we could see on AIS, some boats went a little too far east and overlaid the mark. This is probably where some crew on the rails got wet as a couple of 20 knot bullets made thing a little lumpy. A reminder about port/starboard rules needs to be mentioned here!!!!!After another starboard rounding at Hope, the fleet condensed and had a ball in very close company, in very fast conditions, all the way past Lockyer Light and back to the finish line just south of the harbour leads. It was fantastic to watch the faster boats in both Mono and Multi fleets get to the front and even better to watch some good sailing skills of the finishing fleet. Great Day!!
