Goggs takes out the Ross Jullyan Memorial Trophy!

It was a pity that rain hung around for the day, without it, the breeze was great and made for another awesome Wednesday arvo sail. It was also the Ross Jullyan Memorial Trophy and race 1/7 in the Geoff Anderson Memorial Super Series. Mick Jullyan was on hand, along with a number of Ross’s great mates to remember this man who along with John Taylor and Mike Thurlow a concept was created that gave way to the birth of WAGS in 1978. It’s one of the only long standing traditions at RQYS and possibly the most successful.

Winner – Goggs (Kerazy) accepting the trophy from Mick Jullyan

Congratulations Goggs!

A very small fleet registered to sail with a couple with drawing before the start. However it was a quality fleet and the talk in the bar after all about the rain. If only it didn’t!! So from the start boat a SE 15-20 knotter took the fleet on a broad reach to the Green Island western cardinal before making their way east between Green and St. Helena Islands. A work leg on the way to the Hope Bank Rec Mark where most managed to lay the mark. Apparently there were some boats that missed the mark and needed to do some very average mauvers. Just say’n. A starboard rounding at Hope and it was a run back to the Green Island Rec Mark where another starboard rounding took the fleet back between Green and St Helena and after a port rounding at the western cardinal a very quick broad reach brought everyone home to the finish line just outside the harbours entrance. By this stage in the afternoon the breeze had dropped to 10 knots making things very comfortable. Again without the rain it was a great sail!!

Coming up:

Coming Up: 18/12/24-Wags Christmas break-up and the Peter Beard Memorial Trophy.
