TIDE: H@12:57-1.61M

COURSE: 18AR

NUMBER OF BOATS: 39

I’m sure all skippers and crew, and especially this RO, were very pleased that the predicted breeze stayed in the upper end of the forecast all arvo. It made, not only for a great sail, but also made us all realize how lucky we are to live in this great place and sail in great company.

The official forecast was variable and under 10 knots, so course selection was critical. Usually in a light nor’ easter we tend to head between Green and St. Helena Islands and up to the floating red. Boring!!Let’s mix it up. With the possibility of the breeze remaining NNE, the eastern side of Green looked a better challenge. So as per the daily briefing the start line was set just outside the entrance to Aquatic Paradise providing a windward start and much thought was required about the Thorpe Beacon just NW of King Island.” Could we lay it from the line on a port tack”? A couple did- very cool. Most started on starboard and played it safe. A very steady 10 knotter stayed with the fleet past Lockyer, taking Germ to port, and all the way to the St. Helena floating red. It was a very long beat, but in the given conditions, flat seas and cooling breeze, it was awesome and there were no complaints back in the bar post-race. Another port rounding at the top mark and it was back between St. Helena and Green Islands, still in a 10 knot breeze, to the Green Island western cardinal. Given that the breeze had been so consistent the start line was turned into the finish line and all enjoyed a relaxing run home. What a great day!!
