WAGS REPORT

DATE: 15/4/2026

WIND:  Variable NE

TIDE: L@14:28-0.48M

COURSE: 23B

NUMBER OF BOATS: 42

Whilst we are all enjoying the fantastic sailing conditions that we have experienced over the past number of Wednesdays, it tends to give this Race Officer a few headaches in course selection. Trying to vary the course weekly and find something that gives everyone a fair chance and more than anything else trying to avoid those dead downwind runs!! On the admissions of a couple of skippers in the bar after the race yesterday “I didn’t think we would get around a course given the very light forecast”. Yeah Ha for the good old Brissy nor’easter!!! It kicked in and hung around all arvo sitting around 10 knots.

Once again the start line was set up for a windward beat to the first mark being the Green Island western cardinal. It was awesome to watch 42 boats working their way up the course and using the ebbing tide to its advantage. It was the same all the way up to the floating red east of St. Helena. A starboard rounding and it was down to the recreational make east of Green (Germ). Now, watching the fleet via AIS on board Vic Frizzell (start boat) it looked like boats were struggling for speed. There must have been still some strength in the ebbing tide due to out by 14:28. Once around Germ it was back between Green and St. Helena, now on the start of the flood tide, to the western cardinal and down to the finish just outside the leads. A fantastic finish in both fleets-17 seconds 1st to 3rd in the Monos and 58 seconds 1st to 6th in the Multis .
