WAGS REPORT

DATE:  1/4/2026

WIND:  SE-15-22 KNOTS

TIDE: L@15:39-0.47M

COURSE: 20BR

NUMBER OF BOATS:  41

A good, some might call brisk, breeze greeted the Wags fleet accompanied by some heavy looking clouds over Stradbroke Island– just the direction they were headed. After the past few weeks where the breezes were light, the afternoon certainly caught some boats needing repairs with damaged sails, rigging issues and steering problems. Another great fleet of 41 registered to race, however 4 decided not to start and 5 retired with the afore mentioned issues.

A windward start in the sou’easter saw a very long beat between Lockyer and Huybers Lights and all the way to the Peel Island Rec. Mark. The ebbing tide was the challenge and trying to stay away from the strongest flow was essential. I’m sure all skipper and crew were pleased to get to the windward mark and take it to port. After probably 25 + knots across the decks the last couple of legs looked a little more relaxing being all running reaches. A very nice, quick leg to Hope Banks and a turn for home towards Lockyer Light saw the usual compression of the fleet for some very close finishers. Well done to all. Another great sail!!
