Georges River 16 Foot Sailing Club
Three RQYS ILCA4 squad members ventured down to Georges River to compete last weekend at the East Coast Championship.
Saturday proved to be quite challenging with oscillating westerlies to south westerlies between 6-8 knot winds fighting with a 2-3 knot current to contend with. However, Harry Hogan put on a near perfect performance on day one coming away with 2 bullets and Ruby Carter close behind with a 2ndand 3rd with Wilbur Bright coming in with a 6th and 8th after getting bounced around on the starts. Day 2 was a waiting game for the wind to come in but the decision to abandon racing was made late in the day.
Day 3 saw a big improvement in the conditions. There was an early start with 12-15 knot south westerlies and gusts of 17 knots. Harry was consistent with 3rd, 7th, 2nd and a bullet. Wilbur found his sweet spot with 3 bullets and a 2nd. Ruby came home strong with a 5th, 9th, 3rd, and a 6th.
At the close of racing, RQYS came away with a clean sweep on the podium. Harry 1st, Wilbur 2nd and Ruby 3rd as well as 1st Female. They proudly represented their club and state as well as having a great time racing against old friends from other clubs. But more importantly they stayed strong as a team throughout the regatta.
Judging by the amount of people that asked questions around Nationals at RQYS in January, we have some great competition heading our way in January.
