Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race 2023 Start

June 12, 2024

The Yacht Sales Co. Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race will now offer 72 hours of complimentary berthing to all competitors and is adapting their race course to be friendly to whale migrations.

“We’re excited to announce great news for all the skippers and crew joining us for the 2024 Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race”, said Karen Baldwin, RQYS CEO.

“The fourth edition of the race from Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron will now race around Lady Elliot to minimise whale disruptions, and you can enjoy greater hospitality at the finish while watching the boats finish in Dent Passage”.

“An extra night’s complimentary berthing is being provided this year, that’s three nights in total, to ensure you have plenty of time to rest and stay for the presentation night and the Beer & Pizza party!”

To celebrate the completion of The Yacht Sales Co. Brisbane to Hamilton Yacht Race, all sailors are welcome to feast on unlimited pizza and will be provided with a complimentary drink on arrival to the Captain’s Club for the official presentation. And with additional berthing, there should be ample time for all to join.

“As Race Director, we are proud to be holding this significant race as part of the East Coast offshore calendar for the 4th edition”, said an enthused Mark Gallagher, Race Director.

“There are also few course changes”, he added, continuing to address the concerns some have had over the increasing number of whales on the route North, as well as viewing options at the finish.

“The Squadron takes its environmental responsibilities seriously, and with whale migration on the increase and the rising numbers around Breaksea Spit, the course will be more offshore and include Lady Elliot Island as a mark of the course to minimise encounters”.

For those visiting the Island to welcome their families and crewmates, the vision of the finish will be returned to just off the Hamilton Island Yacht Club.

“We will also be returning to the traditional Dent Passage finish line”, Gallagher revealed.

“Come and join us for the best yacht race to Go North this year!” Baldwin finished.
