Clarence River Cruises

Absolute bliss and awesome sailing.

By Narelle and Ash SV Ohana

Whilst heading south, the wind was so kind to provide 11-13 knots from the east. Just as the dusk was upon us, it decided to turn SW at 4knots allowing some of us to spend the night under anchorage at Byron Bay. The following morning another pleasant sail, 10-12 knots from the West before turning SW just in time for our entry into Yamba Bar.

The rest of the Flotilla would arrive over the next few days to blue skies and the calmest of anchorage.

Epernay, Fleet and Ohana were able to enjoy the local Yamba and Iluka pubs, restaurants and walks to the Iluka bluff, led by Fleet’s mascot, Bosun (dog).

Sunday was a chance to have lunch at the Harwood (Hilton) Pub. The evening entertainment consisted of watching the Sugar refinery by night, lit up on the shore whilst we awaited the lifting of the Harwood bridge the next morning.

Monday was another day of exploration in Maclean (old Scottish town). As we all strolled down memory lane finding kin of past and enjoying freshly baked morning tea at the local coffee shop.

The Clarence Group would once again meet at the Maclean Hotel. Needless to say the evening was a lot of fun that it went well into darkness. Not normally an issue but some of us got caught without an anchor light.

All the cruisers have returned with great memories ready for the next adventure!
