Wednesday Afternoon GO Sailing

November 30, 2023

WIND: N-NE-8-16 Knots

TIDE: H@ 17:17

COURSE: Echo

NUMBER OF BOATS: 40

I mentioned to the crowd at presentation that if you could hand pick wind conditions, sea state and all that is required for a great Wags sail, you probably wouldn’t go past what we had on the day. A generous round of applause confirmed everybody’s feelings. Course Echo was questioned by some earlier in the day “we’ll never get around” and “there’s not enough wind”, but I was confident of the arrival of the good old Brissy nor’easter and the course turned out to be awesome.

A beat all the way from the start line, between Green and St Helena Islands and up to the floating red required some thought by skippers and crew. The ebbing tide helped a little, but also produced some issues on the start line with several boats OCS and strong currents around marks. After a starboard rounding at the top mark it was a great run to the new Hope Banks RM before another starboard rounding saw the fleet compress and enjoy the usual friendly banter in close quarters on a reach home towards Lockyer Light and the finish boat waiting just north of the harbour entrance. It’s fantastic to have the fleet returning to normal numbers with the arrival home of our racers from the northern regattas. Great arvo!!!Well done!!!
