SAIL CRUISING GROUP CRUISE REPORT KING ISLAND, WATERLOO BAY 7-8/7/18
The nearest destination to Manly imaginable! That funny little island joined by a causeway at low tide to Wellington Point. Our very own King Island not to be confused with Tasmania’s famous Island of remarkable cheese and seafood.
So that was the theme and a determined few braved chilly westerlies to anchor off King for a surprisingly sunny Sundowners inspired by fromage., and learn a little of this little patch’s history. From Shez’s lovely baked camembert to the King Island blues from Craig, we enjoyed a perfect table of choices. The cheese questionaire with optional answers turned out to be a humorous learning experience with Kerry and Craig the winners of a set of cheese knives! Despite the forecast of relatively mild winds, Saturday night was a howler; despite the short fetch, a short chop was picked up however the holding in sand and mud was excellent. Two of our dinghies were carried off after chewing through their painters, ( but isn’t that what lee shores are for?) , and both were retrieved without mishap!
Despite the strong westerlies we still gathered on a sunny Sunday for a fish and chips lunch on Wellington point, most of us opting to berth the boat and go by car, but hardy couples Matt and Lanaia and Craig and Kerry came as planned by dinghy.
Thanks to Espresso, Freycinet, Lucinda, Sensation, Stylopora and Scarlett for attending.
Cruise Captains were Joanne and Glenn of SV Lucinda.
