On Friday 12th September a large contingent of RQ members including Commodore Curtis Skinner & Vice Commodore Todd Anderson, attended the annual Qld State Award Night to celebrate the outstanding achievements of sailors, volunteers and sailing professionals from around the state. There were 13 categories overall, and RQ sailors won 5 of them!  Please join us in congratulating the following:
  • Coach of the Year – Rafael Trujillo
  • Team of the Year – “The Beast” Sailing team made up of siblings Ayla, Jordan & Hayden Barney as well as Yael O’Hagan and Hugo Ralph
  • Youth Sailor of the Year – Rory Meehan
  • Female Sailor of the Year – Stacey Jackson
  • Official of the Year – Louise Davis
In addition to the five (5) people named above, there were another 12 of our members who were recognized as Finalists on the night and this is also an outstanding achievement.  Please also note and congratulate the following Finalists for their efforts:
  • Coach of the Year – Adrian Finglas & Kate Baisden
  • Team of the Year – Annette Hesselmans & Sophie Snijders
  • Youth Sailor of the Year – Jordan Barney & Josh Dale
  • Para Sailor of the Year – Dan Fitzgibbon
  • Female Sailor of the Year – Mara Stransky & Ayla Barney
  • Volunteer of the Year – Michael Mallan & Louise Davis
  • Sports Promotion Award – RQYS for promotion of Finn World Championships in 2026
We didn’t have a finalist in the “SheSails Award” category, we extend our hearty congratulations to Ken Hurling for his active support of the ILCA Australian Solidarity Program with ILCA, as well as to all the other winners on the night. It was a fabulous night and made us all very proud to be RQYS Members!
