Last Tuesday, the Brisbane Winds of Change participants were pleased to host Kimberley Mallos, from the Queensland Department of Sport to showcase our girls’ program. This particular program has been generously funded by the Qld Department of Sport and Recreation, with the aim of encouraging more girls and women into sport.
After a seamless boat-to-boat transfer, Kimberly joined RQ’s Rob Brown OAM, Natalie Herity (Making Waves) and a group of students from Brisbane Bayside State College to see their activities first-hand, and chat to the volunteers and school staff. Indeed, the timing of Kimberley’s visit couldn’t have been better. An absence of wind meant the boat was nice and stable for her visit and provided a great opportunity to chat to the students and watch them practice their knot tying and social skills. The school reports that one of the participants started the program three weeks ago with near refusal to participate, but this week was laughing and participating.
