International Volunteer Managers Day (IVM Day) is an annual event, celebrated each year on November 5, dedicated to recognising the vital work of volunteer managers and co-ordinators. It’s a day to recognise and celebrate the profession of volunteer leadership. Established in 1999, it has become a global movement highlighting the unseen efforts that keep volunteer programmes running smoothly.

Our fabulous Volunteer Co-ordinator, Phil Tooth, has worked tirelessly since June 2023 to recruit, train and support hundreds of volunteers who have contributed to the continuous, smooth operation of RQYS sailing and Finn’s Shed activities.

IVM Day is a day to recognize the important role that volunteer managers play in effective volunteering. Volunteer managers like Phil are responsible for coordinating, training, supporting, recruiting, and administering volunteers. They are skilled professionals who help people turn their passion into action for the benefit of their community, and our club.

In an RQYS paper written some years ago, it was estimated the cost to replace the labour that our volunteers contribute was valued at approximately $300,000 per annum!  In addition, volunteering adds enormous value in the form of productivity and wellness for the participant.  Although RQYS benefits greatly from the community giving of its volunteers, it is often the volunteer who benefits most.

We thank Phil Tooth on his special day as RQYS Volunteer Co-ordinator and congratulate him on the successful recruitment and retention of our 120+ volunteers.  If you would like to get involved with Phil and the team of RQYS volunteers, please visit www.rqys.com.au/volunteering.
