WAGS REPORT

DATE:  8/10/2025

WIND:  NNE-15-20 KNOTS

TIDE: L@16:27-0.35M

COURSE: 26Bravo

NUMBER OF BOATS: 30

The top mark seemed sooo far away, especially when the wind was against the tide and combined made the bay stand-up like an angry soldier. It was part of a short beat and only a very small part of a long reaching and running course, however that was the major contribution to the conversation in the bar at the end of the day.

So from the start line, set just south of the harbour entrance, it was a nice beat (in much calmer conditions) on the inside of Green Island to the western cardinal. That’s where things started to get interesting. The ebbing tide was ripping out between Green and St. Helena and when it meet the increasing nor’ nor’ easter (around 20 knots) the challenge intensified and got everybody’s attention all the way to the top mark, the St Helena floating red. Even skippers and crew on Multihulls were getting wet. Their safe enclosed cockpits were under threat from the Bay! Without doubt, would have been a relief to turn to starboard at the top mark and enjoy a run, in much flatter conditions all the way to the Hope Banks Rec. Mark where another starboard turn was followed by a very fast reach past Lockyer Light and home to the Vic Frizzell just where everybody left her.

                              GREAT SAIL!!!!! GREAT FUN!!!!!
