WAGS REPORT

DATE:  4/3/2026

WIND:  NE-E-NE-6-10 KNOTS

TIDE: L@14:51-0.47M

COURSE: 17 BRAVO

NUMBER OF BOATS: 49

With a wind prediction of an easterly breeze from just about all of our esteemed forecasters, it was, for this RO, a mission to find a course with a strong easterly leg. After scrolling through our course book, believe it or not there were not many choices. In fact only one. A situation that will be rectified asap with a change to a course so watch for an amendment to the Sailing Instructions.

It was a fantastic fleet of 49 that registered for the afternoon’s activities and the breeze looked to be light early with an increase as the afternoon progressed. As we ventured out onto our bay a steady nor’easter at 6 knots awaited and the start line was set just south of the Green Island western cardinal. There has been some chat of “more windward work” recently and that is exactly what was occurred on the first 4 legs. A nor’easter faced the fleet all the way from the start, between Green and St. Helena Islands and up to floating red were magically it turned into an easterly for the long beat to the Sand Hills Rec. Mark, hopefully for filling the “windward“ requests. With the ebbing tide, which we all know flows south to north, you didn’t want to be working against it as approaching the windward mark. It looked like most favoured the southern approach. Things were looking good with the breeze now at 10 knots. All we had to do was round the mark and enjoy a nice run home. HMM!#***#!!!! The breeze just dropped away to 4 knots. Keep in mind the ebbing tide. Problem! The next mark of the course was the Green Island northern cardinal which seemed miles away and the only option for a finish line. The fleet was informed exactly that via CH 72 and in the spirit of Wags, it remain open well past the 16:00 cut off time to finish as many as possible. Why ruin a great day!!
