WAGS REPORT

DATE:  4/2/26

WIND:  SE-ESE-E-10-12 KNOTS

TIDE: L@18:02-0.5M

COURSE: 1 BRAVO

NUMBER OF BOATS: 40

Thank goodness someone turned the fan down from the blast we experienced in Brisbane on Monday and Tuesday. All was looking great for another Wags arvo. A good fleet, some nice people and a very nice predicted 10-15 knot sou’easter.

The course was set for a challenging beat from the St. Helena floating red to the Hope banks Rec. Mark. The breeze that arrived seemed to come from multiple directions and there were some interesting changes. Down at Banana Banks was showing the steady sou’easter, and up at the Inner Beacon it was blowing from the north east. The only issue was it had to converge somewhere and that somewhere just happened to be Hope Banks making it an easterly and turning it into a soldiers course with no work leg anywhere.

However there was still the ebbing tide to consider and in a softening breeze, it caught a few skippers on the wrong side of a couple of marks. A very good sailor once told me “to sail well in Moreton Bay you need to know and use the tides”. Great advice!! It was still a great sail and nobody complained  about a thing!!
