WIND: WAY TOO MUCH!
TIDE: H@12.43
COURSE: Foxtrot Reverse
NUMBER OF BOATS: 24
It wasn’t through a lack of trying!!
From as early as Tuesday morning, there were a couple of reliable prediction models that were suggesting the breeze was going to be way more than the “official site” was saying, and they were correct. The race committee deliberated early Wednesday morning and it was decided, as there was no strong wind warning for Moreton Bay, we would proceed as per normal. Just before heading out to the course, Hope Banks recorded 23 knots average and gusts of 28. It was only the brave who were already on course and as the start boat went out through the leads and headed to the starting area that a gust of 33.9 true was recorded on the wind instrument. My crew were struggling to stay on their feet and it was horrible. There was no hesitation in the call of abandonment. It rarely happens in Wags. I will always put the safety of people before any yacht race. Nobody can say we didn’t try!!
The official stand on ANCHORS will be posted on or before 5pm 2/2/2024
