TIDE: L@18:01-1.97M

COURSE: 24C

NUMBER OF BOATS: 38

After the heat and humidity felt in Brissy over the past week, it was absolutely fantastic to experience our bay at its best. Flat water, a cooling easterly under 12 knots and great company, it just doesn’t get any better! A big thank you to skippers who took extra crew. It’s a great way to showcase our Squadron and introduce near novices our sport. You never know what comes of such a visit.

I believe it’s the first time this course has been used. With the forecast of a “flicking” easterly, the fleet needed to go out to Hope banks and enjoy a great beat. So here we go. The start line was set-up with the breeze at 105 degrees. This gave the first leg a nice windward beat, just in case it all went to pot and the easterly didn’t kick in. However as the fleet took Lockyer to port and headed up to GERM there was a 40-degree shift to the left and the wind Gods blessed the RO. Many lifts and knocks were endured. It was a southeaster at Banana Banks and a northeaster at Inner Beacon. We got something in-between. Out at Hope, as per normal, the tide needed some thought with it ebbing all arvo. Once around the mark and heading for home, the breeze softened to the point of thought of a shortened course could be on the cards. However the sea breeze appeared and brought everyone home to the finish line just outside the harbour entrance. Fantastic sail!!!! More please!!!!

Coming Up: Race 4/7 of the Geoff Anderson Memorial Super Series-4th Feb.
