WAGS REPORT

DATE:  19/11/2025

WIND: NE-10-15 KNOTS

TIDE: L@15:15-0.63M

COURSE: 17 BRAVO

NUMBER OF BOATS: 45

A perfect 10 to 15 nor’easter greeted a fantastic fleet of 45 and believe it not, everybody was a winner just for turning up. It truly was a near perfect sail.

It was also an afternoon to celebrate the inception of what we know as Wags. Born (officially) April 1978 when some great sailing mates decided to have a bottle of rum on a circumnavigation of Green Island. “From little things, big things grow” and look what we have today. Probably the longest running regatta out of our harbour, if not within Queensland. Maybe someone should check on that?? The trophy we sailed for today was put in place by the Jullyan family in 1999 and known as the Ross Jullyan Memorial Trophy in memory of some mates who had an idea!

Hmmmmmm. It was also race 1/7 of the Geoff Anderson Memorial Super Series and we had a fitting and deserved winner (see photo) A BIG DAY!!

The course had quite a long work leg all the way from the start boat, between Green and St. Helena and up to the St. Helena floating red before still heading northeast and out to the Sandhills rec. mark. The tide was ebbing and gave a little assistance. A starboard rounding at the rec. mark and it was nearly slack water so the run home, back between the islands, was very flat and I’m sure very pleasant. The biggest problem was finding some clear and clean air. The fleet was very cosy to say the least. 35 of the 45 fleet finishing in less than 6 minutes, keeping the finish boat very busy. Great to watch and I’m sure even better to play. Well done to all!!!

Coming Up: Race 2/7 of The Geoff Anderson Memorial Super Series- 3/12/25
