WAGS REPORT

DATE:  18/2/2026

WIND:  NNE-8-12 KNOTS

TIDE: L@16:34-0.05M

COURSE: 23BR

NUMBER OF BOATS: 43

They say that necessity can be the mother of invention. The course chosen for the events of our day was also to accommodate the 60 boat Finn regatta being held just east of Huybers light and being the first time used it worked out to be a cracker.

The start line was once again set-up so the first mark of the course was windward. A couple of hours into the ebbing tide was a factor and some skippers chose to use differently. The tide can rip close to the beach at the back of Green Island and there were a few boats who went there on a port tack immediately after entering the course. Once taking the Green Island western cardinal to starboard, there was still a push from the tide to the Green Island red before it was a different factor as the fleet headed south toward the Green Island rec. mark (GERM). The breeze was approx. 020 degrees and around 12 knots and made for perfect sailing conditions on our bay. A port rounding at GERM and it was off to the St. Helena floating red. It was a little disappointing as this leg was supposed to be another work leg, however many boats layed the top mark. Hmm! Another port rounding and it was back between St. Helena and Green Islands on a very nice run, albeit against the ebb tide. I’m sure the foredeckies were working hard with poles needing a consistent trim all the way to the finish line which was set deep in Waterloo Bay. The last leg saw the fleet compress with seconds separating the first six Monos and repeated throughout the fleet.

GREAT ARVO GREAT JOB!!!

Coming Up: No wags next week due to the 120 + Finn Worlds. I’m sure our sacrifice will be thanked eventually!
