Sometimes, when this time of the year rolls around, you find your emotions torn on who or where you’re supposed to be. However, being the last WAGS before Christmas, everyone who turned up to participate knew exactly the answer. It was Wednesday and RQ was the place to be, along with other keen sailors from our WAGS family. The day was also used to raise some much-needed support for our club’s charity of choice, Making Waves. Great job Nat!  Skippers and crew arrived at 11 am to find the hour-long promised drinks underway. They also dug deep to spin and I quote “the wheel of death”. Who would have thought that a simple plastic wheel would keep so many adults mesmerized for over an hour? With a simple turn of the wheel handicaps went up and down in a single spin. But hang on, nobody was happy with a single spin and most kept on coming forward, convinced their day would only get better with more spins. Thank you. There was over $3000.00 raised. You people are amazing!! It was also hilarious.

Given that the eastern part of the bay was showing 20-25 knots, it was decided that we would keep close to Green Island and the beat would be first leg to Lockyer Light in a very nice 12 knots. However, once taking Lockyer to port it was a very fast run north, past GERM (to port) and all the way to the floating red at St. Helena. Another turn to port and hardening up on the fresh sou’easter for a bit, before navigating between St. Helena and Green Islands all the way back to the harbour entrance where an eager finish crew awaited to end another fantastic Wags year. Well done!!

Wishing you all a very safe and Merry Christmas and the very best for 2026!

Coming Up: First Wags for 2026-7th January. Also race 3/7 of the Geoff Anderson Memorial Super Series.
