Wednesday Afternoon GO Sailing

May 09, 2024

WIND: SE-15-23 Knots

TIDE: L @15:22

COURSE: Alpha

NUMBER OF BOATS: 20

Alpha provides a bit of windward work and a lot of running and reaching!

The fleet number might have seemed down, but with the running of Brisbane Race Week, many of our usual Wags family, stepped up and joined in on the 5 day regatta which started last Friday. So you could add a further 22 to the fleet. The breeze was definitely up and provided a fantastic afternoon, sailed very well by all who ventured on to the course.

Looking at the possibility of a 25 knotter, I believe it is imperative to get people and boats out on to the water and home as safely as possible. Good old course Alpha, one of the original Wags courses, was going to provide just that, a bit of windward work and a lot of running and reaching. The first leg from the start boat to the Green Island western cardinal was the first of the running part of the day before heading out to our new Hope Banks rec. mark (RM). Yes it was hard work with 25 plus being recorded across the decks. However everyone survived and performed admirably. It would have been of some relief to round Hope and get on another run back towards to Lockyer Light and home to the finish line just outside the harbour entrance. A huge well done to the Wags fleet for keeping clear of the extra finish line to the south of Vic Frizzell and allowing all competitors in BRW to finish their regatta. Oh the importance of CH 72!!
